En route to the shifting of Academic Calendar, Mountain Province State Polytechnic College (MPSPC) Bontoc Campus conducted its annual General Orientation not only for the freshmen and transferees, but including the old students last August 24 at the College Auditorium.

Headed by the newly designated Dean of Student Services and Development Office (SSDO), Dr. Augusto B. Cacap, and SSDO staff, the event was attended by students from the Departments of Accountancy, Business Administration, Criminology, Education, Hotel and Restaurant Management and Tourism, Information Technology, Liberal Arts, Nursing, and Office Administration.

Dr. Geraldine L. Madjaco, Vice President of Academic Affairs, shared in her welcome remarks the tips of ‘believing in yourself’ asserting the Story of Clay Pots with the lessons of grabbing the opportunity while remembering to achieve your main purpose, being trained and prepared, persevering and focusing on studies.

Before the Orientation Proper started, Director Zenaida Y. Soliven of Human Resource introduced to the students the Unit Heads and Department Chairpersons.

On behalf of the Chief of Staff and Planning Office, Flordeliza G. Cruz of Gender and Development (GAD) Office discussed the MPSPC’s Vision Mission Goals and Objectives (VMGO). She stated, “VMGO of the College is the blueprint of all our action. Without the VMGO, we don’t have any direction.” Thereafter, the discussion on the GAD were culminated introducing the programs of the Office.

Allan K. Tabec, Executive Director of Student Affairs Office introduced the VGMO of the SSDO. Director Tabec announced that the SSDO is open for the students’ concern and provided a glimpse of the Mutual Aid Fee or the insurance fee.

Dr. Mary D. Toyokan, College Dentist presented the Dental Services that they are offering, while Director Joseph M. Brillantes of Health Services discussed the HIV/AIDS/STD/ and Common Health Emergencies for the awareness of the students. Moreover, Crystine C. Felimon, Guidance Counselor, also displayed to the students the Guidance and Counselling services. Counselor Felimon also reminded the students that the Psychological Test will be held on August 27 (Saturday) at the Auditorium.

Beryl Jo A. Binmuyag, Officer-in-Charge of Sports Office announced the important dates for the students sport activities. The Intramurals for Bontoc Campus is on October 3-7 and October 19-21 for Tadian Campus. Adela II A. Bantasan, Cultural Director and Velon W. Alicmas, Library Director presented the services offered by their respective offices for the students.

Rexon T. Damayan, Accountant III, explained to the students the details of the College, Melodave Y. Foman-eg, Registrar II, discussed the Admission Policies and Guidelines, and Director Roger C. Pacling of National Service Training Progam (NSTP) presented the Background and History of NSTP.

Moreover, Dean Cacap clarified to the students the Student Services and Scholarship Program followed by Benjamin A. Cha-ar, Chief Security Officer with the Security Services and Commonly Observed Student Violations.

Myla A. Panisoc, LA student, inspired the student populace with her stories in the College. “It is not the name of the school that is remembered, it is the behavior of the students,” Panisoc said.

Meanwhile, a freshmen student expressed affirmation on the endeavor. “As a student, the orientation is an avenue for us to start our College days being informed and aware,” he explained.


Furthermore, Dr. Christie Lynne C. Codod, Executive Dean, in her closing remarks “I hope the students are enlightened with the school policies and guidelines discussed by the different speakers.” Dean Codod also explained that the orientation is annually held aiming to familiarize the students about the policies, rules, and regulations of the school and their respective departments. // Tala, The Mocking Bird (Official Student Publication of MPSPC) Staff
